No you cannot. Massachusetts law only allows you to consume marijuana behind closed doors in a private home.

Yes, provided you are simply transporting it and not consuming it and that it is in a sealed container. Driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal, dangerous and can result in a DUI.

There are still many reasons to apply for a medical cannabis card in the state of Massachusetts. Medical cannabis will not be subject to the 17% state and 3% municipal tax that can be applied to the recreational product. Medical patients can have their cannabis delivered to them, unlike recreational purchases. In the event the recreational marijuana boom causes a drop in supply, the state has mandated that at least 35% of medical grade cannabis must be reserved for medical patients. There will also be a greater variety of cannabis products available for purchase by the medical patient. For example, recreational edibles are only allowed to have 5 mgs of THC, where medical edibles do not have a limit.

Cannabis is often sold to patients in grams or ounces. Below is a conversion table to help you understand the weight of our products. All conversions are approximate and have been rounded up or down to the nearest whole number.

1/8 oz. ≈ 3.5 g1 oz. ≈ 28 g
¼ oz. ≈ 7 g2 oz. ≈ 56 g
½ oz. ≈ 14 g4 oz. ≈ 112 g

Some patients report dry mouth, dizziness or paranoia when using cannabis. While many patients use cannabis to combat anxiety, it may create anxiety in others. Cannabis can slow your reaction time, and you should not drive or operate heavy machinery while under the influence of cannabis. Certain health risks may be associated with consuming cannabis while pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant. Responsible dosing can help you avoid unpleasant experiences with cannabis. Always speak with your doctor about your medical history and the medications you are taking before using cannabis.

Marijuana available today is the same plant that has been available for thousands of years. However, there are a vast amount of marijuana varieties available today and their potency varies greatly. We encourage you to speak with a Patient Consultant, and to record your experiences with different strains, to find a strain and treatment regimen that is best for you.

Cannabis 101

Revolutionary Clinics is committed to informing communities and patients alike about cannabis and responsible use. To help begin the learning process, we’ve put together this Cannabis 101 resource guide. We encourage you to start here, and visit our Resource Library for more cannabis education materials.

The use of cannabis for both medicinal and recreational purposes is not new. In fact, 4000 B.C. is the earliest record of marijuana being used in a medical application. Cannabis has been used in the United States for centuries, as it was considered a useful drug in the alleviation of symptoms brought on by different medical conditions.

The cannabis plant is generally grouped into three main categories — Sativas, Indicas and Hybrids. Each of these three groups contains a large variety of strains, all with unique properties, effects and flavor.

Sativas are reported to prompt the following therapeutic effects:

• Mood elevation

• Increased energy

• Increased sense of well-being and focus

• Increased appetite

These strains are recommended for daytime use; they may increase feelings of anxiety or paranoia in some patients.

Indicas are reported to prompt the following therapeutic effects:

• Relaxation and stress relief

• Relaxes muscles, reduces spasms

• Reduces pain and inflammation

• Promotes sleep

• Reduces anxiety

• Relieves nausea and increases appetite

• Reduces intra-ocular pressure

These strains are recommended for nighttime use; they may increase feelings of tiredness or unclear thinking in some patients.

Hybrids are produced when two or more strains are crossbred to create certain desired therapeutic effects.

Cannabinoids are chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant that interact with your body to produce medical benefits. THC and CBD are just two examples of cannabinoids. There are more than 100 cannabinoids found in marijuana, all with unique potential therapeutic benefits.

Terpenes are organic compounds found in a variety of plants including cannabis. Terpenes contribute to the flavor, scent and color of cannabis, and like cannabinoids, they interact with your body to produce certain effects that contribute to your medical marijuana experience. Terpene content can vary across products due to processing techniques and method of use.

Each individual will experience different effects as they try marijuana, and because of this, we recommend taking notes during your cannabis experience and working closely with a Patient Consultant to determine and refine a treatment regimen that is most beneficial for you.

There are many different methods of using cannabis.

Inhaling medical marijuana produces near-instant effects that may last for several hours. Smoking and vaporizing are both methods of inhaling.

Ingesting medical marijuana produces delayed effects that last for several hours. Consuming marijuana infused food products, oils and pills are all methods of ingesting.

Topical treatments allow cannabis to be absorbed by the skin to relieve pain, soreness and inflammation — they do not result in psychoactive effects, meaning therapeutic effects are delivered without the “high.” Lotions, balms and body oils are all examples of topical use.

Flower FAQs

Revolutionary Clinics provides our patients with the best cannabis flower in MA. Our flower is harvested at the peak of its potency, expertly cured and stored in optimum conditions to ensure that we provide you with the best quality cannabis available. Whether you’re vaporizing, smoking or cooking with our flower, you know you’re getting the best medical cannabis available in the commonwealth.

The flower is the seed-bearing section of the female marijuana plant. When grown without male plants present, the female bud is unfertilized and referred to as sensimilla. Sensimilla is highly prized as it has a much richer THC content and a smoother smoke than buds containing seeds. Revolutionary Clinics’ flower is flavorful, potent and available in the popular strains enjoyed by medical cannabis patients all over the country.

Flower is ideal for those new to medicating with cannabis as it requires a minimum of preparation and offers predictable results.

  • Rolling an iconic “joint” is an inexpensive option, but it requires a bit of practice and patience to get it right
  • Smoking from a glass pipe is easier for beginners as well as those with arthritis or other conditions limiting their dexterity
  • Smoking from a bong or bubbler reduces throat irritation and coughing and offers an intense “hit.”
  • You can vaporize flower with a dry-herb vaporizer, available in many shapes and sizes. Though expensive at first, “vaping” is more efficient and smooth than smoking

You may also choose to cook with your flower, though this is somewhat complicated and not recommended for beginners. Better to purchase edibles made by the experts!

  • Indica flower is known for providing a heavy “body high” and is recommended for relaxation and pain relief.
  • Sativa flower is more invigorating and uplifting, making it ideal for treating depression and for medicating during the day.
  • There are also countless hybrid strains of the flower with varying levels of effects and flavors.

It takes a bit of time and patience to figure out what flower strains work best for you, but the learning process can be a lot of fun! Do plenty of research, ask a lot of questions and experiment with different strains and methods of consumption. You should also find it helpful to discuss your needs with our staff while choosing new strains to try out.

Concentrates FAQs

Cannabis concentrates are any form of cannabis that is obtained using an extraction process. Types of concentrates include oils, wax, glass, shatter and oral tinctures. Concentrates are recommended for people with a little more experience in cannabis. If you’re a medical cannabis patient and interested in trying concentrates for the first time, come down to Revolutionary Clinics in Somerville and Cambridge and let our Patient Consultants walk you through everything you need to know.

Concentrates are cost-effective, powerful, clean, smooth, convenient and discreet. They offer:

  • More consistency-Concentrates are more predictable from puff to puff
  • More control-Heat can be adjusted to release only certain cannabinoids when vaping
  • More potency-Concentrates regularly have a 75-95% cannabinoid concentration
  • Discretion. There’s barely any odor emitted, no mess left behind and vaping can be extremely subtle especially if it’s done in a portable vaporizer
  • Better flavor – Some concentrates have terpenes reintroduced to boost flavor

Revolutionary Clinics provides a wide variety of concentrates, most of which have been extracted from our own flower. We try to keep all types of concentrates in stock. Our Fitchburg facility is set up with state-of-the-art extraction equipment and Sasquash presses to produce the varieties of concentrates described below.

  • Kief – Dry AKA Sift or pollen. Kief is a loose powder of trichromes broken off from cannabis flowers.
  • Hash – A compression of kief.
  • Hash oil – Sometimes called BHO (butane hash oil) is an extremely potent concentrate using a solvent to dissolve active compounds, then purging the solvent. Because THC content can be around 80%, hash oil is a popular remedy for heavy pain relief.
  • CO2 oil – A concentrate extracted with pressure and carbon dioxide cooled to a supercritical state. This is similar to hash oil, but with no chances of a harmful solvent remaining in the finished product.
  • Rosin – Extract harvested using heat and pressure to instantaneously “squeeze” resinous sap from cannabis. If done properly, rosin can be just as good as Hash oil, but without any potential harm from the use of solvents.

Shatter, wax, crumble, sap, oil or budder are all names for the different consistencies of hash oils, rosins or CO2 oils. Chemically speaking, they’re all the same thing. Any of those three extraction products can also be used to fill premade vape cartridges.

The best way is your way. Revolutionary clinics carries all the equipment you need to enjoy the concentrates that you choose. Vape pens are great for discreet situations, edibles made with concentrates are perfect for those who don’t like smoke or vapor in their lungs. It’s all really a personal choice.

  • Dabbing – Dabbing refers to the most popular way of consuming concentrates. It involves heating a nail in a special bubbler called a “dab rig” with a blowtorch and then touching a small amount of concentrate to the hot nail. The solid sublimates into gas immediately, leading to a powerful, smooth hit.
  • Vaping – Using a portable or desktop vaporizer to heat concentrates and inhale. Sometimes the terms ‘vaping’ and ‘dabbing’ can be used interchangeably.
  • In edibles- Dissolve concentrates into any cooking oil, and bake delicious edibles.
  • Smoked with a flower- A dab of oil or a sprinkling of kief can be mixed into a bowl to give it an extra kick.
